Research
and Advocacy Programme to Promote Management of Natural
Resources for Sustainable Development Activities
Promoting
natural resource management through partnerships with educational
institutions
Integration of educational and natural resources management
in Africa has not achieved the desired results because people
are busy concentrating on issues of survival. Other than
delivering on academic concepts education has fallen short
of capacitating students on the value of resources found
in their communities and innovations that can be used to
manage those resources for sustainable utilization. Today
communities are ignorant about the resources found in their
communities and the long term effects is their mismanagement.CRD
is engaging academic institutions for partnerships in research
whose outcome is critical in disseminating information on
the impacts of resource exploitation in the communities.
The research findings will also influence policy to ensure
the incorporation of sustainable development concepts in
the curricular at all levels. This partnership with institutions
of higher learning will ensure quality of research projects
and will provide platforms for sustainable development.
CRD is inspired by the overall goal of the United Nations’
Education for Sustainable Development which is:
To integrate the principles, values and practices of sustainable
development into all aspects of education and learning.
The education effort will encourage change in behaviour
that will create a more sustainable future in terms of environmental
integrity, economic viability and a just society, for present
and future generation,. (UNESCO, 2005).
